The Batey Relief Alliance Clinic in Dominican Republic - An Introduction by Brett Hoover

Designing and Constructing for any relief effort, AFH Indy Chapter, partnering with Engineers Without Borders Rose-Hulman Institute Chapter has completed the first phase construction on a new roof for a HIV / AIDS Clinic operated by the Batey Relief Alliance in the Domincan Republic. The BRA  provides much needed medical services to the country and for the sugar farmers in the region. Our Team has worked hand in hand with students from Rose-Hulman Institute to construct the roof and with an excelerated schedule, the team was able to accomplish the goal in just 10 days.

The trip to the Dominican Republic would not happen without the generous donations from individuals and firms that support the Chapter's mission.
Please check back for a complete list soon.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Strictly in terms of functionality, we have conferred and at the bare minimum, the clinic needs:
- A waiting area room with reception desk, no less than 15' x 12'
- 2 bathrooms, handicap accessible
- 2 offices / private seeing rooms
- 1 "intensive care" / emergency room
- 1 large general purpose room, with collapsible walls. Can be used as a classroom, for inpatient care, etc.
- Septic system & electricity
- Must be easily expandable, both upwards & outwards as needed.

It seems best that there be two floors, the ground floor being specifically for patient care and the second floor being for community use, archives, storage, etc.
Currently, the available space for the clinic is a plot of land roughly 25' x 65'
